The FREQUENCE 2009 project presented by the TEMEX R&D was selected by the French National Research Agency (ANR) for the "Functional Materials and Innovative Processes" ProgrammeThe ANR will partially fund the FREQUENCE project managed by TEMEX jointly with FEMTO-ST and GEMMA.
The project title is: "Modelling of crystal resonators and innovative processes in order to make them much smaller" and deals with the crystal production paths in a complex environment.
|
"A project with a stong impact on the competitiveness of the related industrial sector!" according to the ANR
|
The main objective of the project is to improve the production technology of acoustic crystal components such as the Bulk Acoustic Resonators (BAW). The project aims at developing the modelling tools as well as the technological processes that are necessary to design and manufacture high-performance crystal resonators with minimum size thanks to a collective process on 100 mm diameter slices. The expected advantages are cost reduction (due to collective assembling) and size reduction of components (the thinness will ease their integration on the PCB). These components are used as frequency references for electronic systems that require highly reliable time measurements, in applications such as metrology, GPS, guidance and radars.
TEMEX R&D Manager, Michel CHOMIKI will be coordinating the project during the three year period, from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2012. TEMEX and FEMTO-ST will take part in modelling and technological processes while GEMMA will produce crystal slices. According to the National Research Agency: "the consortium includes all right partners: TEMEX core activity is related with this kind of components while the FEMTO institute has created a common laboratory LPMX with TEMEX and GEMMA specializes in the production of top quality monocrystals. All partners are used to working together which will enable an efficient cooperation."
This project, managed by TEMEX, is considered as highly promising by the ANR. It will have a strong impact on the competitiveness of the time and frequency industry, a sector where France remains a worldwide reference! The FREQUENCE project is a clear trust sign in TEMEX future and its capacity to offer innovative products that show a technological breakthrough with the past. With this project, TEMEX is building the basis for its future development.
