Temex announces a Digital Signal Processing Solution for upgrading SAW Sub-System in Pulse Compression radars

Sophia Antipolis (France), 21 December 2007 -- Temex, a world leader in the design and manufacturing of frequency solutions and signal processing for Space and Defense industries, announces the launch of a new Pulse Compression Sub-System with Chirp generator (transmitter) and compressor (receiver) modules at IF. This Digital Pulse Compression Sub-System with analog I/Os is an upgrading solution for operating nowadays SAW-based radars, enables to increase remarkably overall system performances.

Digital Pulse Compression Sub-System with analog I/Os is resulted from TEMEX 30 years experience in design and manufacturing of high performance signal processors. Combining the latest generation FPGAs for signal processing and the analog input and output for the IF of the SAW, this signal processor is an excellent replacement solution for SAW-based radars operating nowadays.

The Digital Pulse Compression Sub-System with analog I/Os perfectly satisfies the demand of retrofit radar market by enhancing overall system performances. High speed digital signal processing enables to make disappear all the inherent limitations of SAW analog nature and improves performances of side lobes level (which is now like the theory), differential phase between receiver channels (which is now perfect). TEMEX digital solution allows to lower power consumption in comparison to oven device.

Pulse Compression Sub-system is self consistent and needs only a DC supply voltage for operation. All the pulse compression parameters such as -center frequency, bandwidth, time dispersion, modulation law, weighting function -are programmable.

Digital vs. SAW-based compressed pulse comparison--

Main characteristics of the new TEMEX P/N CI BM7xx--

The new Pulse Compression Sub-Systems is distinguished by several technical state-of-the-art characteristics. TEMEX P/N CI BM7xx, the first product of this line, is featured below:

Instantaneous dynamic range (low side lobe level),
Accurate angular measurements (angle of arrival),
 Flexibility (programmable parameters), etc.
I/O frequency: up to 120 MHz (centre frequency + half bandwidth)
 Bandwidth: up to 60 MHz
Time dispersion: up to 280 µs (B < 7.5 MHz)
                                   up to 70 µs (B < 15 MHz)
                                   up to 18 µs (B < 30 MHz)
                                   up to 4 µs (B < 60 MHz)
 Footprint: 235mm x 87mm
Height: 23 mm (+ optional heat sink)
